Working Together Conference & Products Show
4/21/2022 (Permalink)
Ryan, Jeff, and Aimee recently attended MN Multi Housing Association (MHA)'s Working Together Conference and Product Show. This event consisted of two days of learning, training, and networking. This conference was designed to empower you and your staff to overcome obstacles, share ideas, and understand how to thrive in today's ever-changing times. Needless to say, it was great to have these three hooligans representing SERVPRO of Minnetonka! They did an awesome job sharing our company's expertise in both commercial and residential restoration services. The Minnesota Multi Housing Association (MHA) was founded in 1967 to promote the highest standards in the development, management and maintenance of rental and owner-occupied multi housing. While members include the state's largest apartment management companies, developers, common interest communities, and providers of related products and services, the majority of our members own or manage fewer than 20 units each. Governed by our Board of Directors, all members of the Minnesota Multi Housing Association commit themselves to the ethical principles and standards of our Code of Ethics.
Why are we involved?
As a member of MHA, we get to work directly with clients to allow them to have a greater understanding of our business. By working with them directly at these conferences, we can gain insight on their needs as clients, all the while explaining to them the multitude of services that we can offer them.
It's very important to us that we are first seen as a positive resource for our community. We want our clients to understand that you can always call us with questions and concerns, without knowing if you need our services or not. We are here to be a resource for you!

Is Your Office Building Prepared for Disaster?
3/25/2022 (Permalink)
Are you an owner of an office building or similar type of commercial space? Do you have fire safety and emergency preparedness meetings? Being prepared by having a well-thought-out emergency plan not only protects your property, but the people that are on your property!
Identify Fire Extinguisher Locations
In case of a fire damage situation, you will want to ensure that you have a sufficient number of fire extinguishers readily available throughout your property. By taking the time to map out and guide the people in your building to these locations, you will minimize the panic in a dangerous situation. If your employees or guests do not know where a fire extinguisher is located, it can make an already risky situation even more dangerous.
Monitor Smoke Detectors and Fire Alarms
Smoke detector and fire alarm systems should be inspected regularly to ensure that they are functioning properly. If these systems are not running properly, you will not be alarmed in the event of a fire or smoke emergency situation. Ensuring that there is a clearly marked exit plan is essential for your building in the event that a smoke detector and fire alarm go off.
Host Safety Trainings
A vital step for fire safety preparedness is safety training for all people involved. By including a fire safety training course in your workplace, you will help the occupants know exactly what they should do if an emergency such as a gas leak, a fire, severe weather event, or flooding occurs. Having a plan in place will reduce panic and disorganization when time is of the essence.
Make Emergency Exits Obvious
Be sure to clearly identify which doors can be used in the event of an emergency situation. Illuminated exit signs can help direct occupants out of the building in case of an emergency. Tape maps of the nearest exit around the walls of the building to help expedite the evacuation process.

Commercial Fire Restoration
1/9/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Coon Rapids/Central Anoka County is available 24 hours a day to restore your property and get you back to business.
As a property owner, it is vital to take immediate action after a commercial fire has occurred. Not only is this important for reducing further damage on your property, but it is essential in getting your business back to pre-fire condition. Delaying fire damage mitigation not only allows soot and smoke damage to get worse by settling into the nooks and crannies of your property, but often times water damage also happens if water is used to extinguish the fire. If your property is not attended to quickly, you will not be able to salvage as many items and structures, resulting in more time and money spent to re-open your business.
We are Fire Damage Restoration Professionals!
Fire damage is an overwhelming process. Our highly-trained technicians are here to help you out from the moment the fire is put out until the final piece of your property is back to normal. How do we perform fire damage restoration? Check out our services below!
Board Ups
Immediately after a fire is extinguished, we can come to board up vulnerable areas of your building including windows, walls, and even the roof. By sealing these openings, we will help prevent further structural damage from weather, debris, and vandalism.
Fire Damage Assessment
Our estimators have the capabilities to inspect the building in great detail. We document the amount of damage that can be saved or repaired by keeping a detailed list of all of the building's contents. After deftly and safely completing the inspection, we can recommend the best course of action to complete the fire restoration.
Water Removal
It's weird to think that you'd have to deal with water damage during a fire event, but a commercial-grade sprinkler system can unleash up to 40 gallons of water each minute once it detects a fire. By removing water and drying areas efficiently and quickly after inspection, we can aid in preventing mold and mildew growth.
Soot and Smoke Removal
Carcinogens found in soot and smoke can lead to cancer and other health problems if not cleaned up properly. Our professionals can clean walls, floors, ceilings, and any other parts of your building's structure. With our restore versus replace mentality, we are often able to clean personal items that have damaged by soot damage and smoke damage.
Through Fire and Smoke, We're "Here to Help!"

Condominium Crisis: Hoarding and Abandonment
12/15/2021 (Permalink)
Using SERVPRO’s time-tested and industry-approved steps, along with our proprietary cleaning products and methods, we are "Here to Help!"
In places where you'd least expect it, you might be surprised to find instances of hoarding. This specific condominium had to deal with a tenant that not only abandoned their condo, but left the mess for our SERVPRO of Coon Rapids/Central Anoka County technicians to handle.
What is Hoarding?
No, hoarding is not the same as your grandma collecting knick-knacks in an organized, intentional, and targeted fashion. Don't be freaked out if she can't get enough of collecting fancy china!
People with hoarding have persistent difficulty getting rid of or parting with possessions due to a perceived need to save them. In these instances, attempting to part with these possessions causes great distress and lead to decisions to save them.
The prevalence of hoarding seems small at 2.6%, but can cause massive issues. Hoarding can cause issues within relationships, social and work activities, and other important areas of functioning.
How does hoarding affect a home?
Although hoarding can range from very mild to severe cases, it can create cramped living situations, narrow pathways, and make areas like kitchen countertops and stoves virtually unusable.
Depending on the items that are collected (trash, magazines, mail, books, rotten food) it can cause significant stress on the integrity of a home.
- Heavy items can cause stress on the foundation of the home. Floorboards and rooms that are overstuffed with items can cause warping in walls and flooring.
- Rotten food can soil surrounding materials leaving stains, rotting natural wood, and discoloring paint on walls.
SERVPRO saves the day!
Cleaning is at the heart of the restoration work that we do, regardless of what disaster may have damaged your home. Our certified technicians have mastered multiple layers of recovery tactics to clean a damaged property such as:
- Wiping Surfaces

- Create a Fire Plan: Ensure that you're employees know what steps to take when a fire occurs. The fire step is to immediately call 911. By conducting yearly fire drills, your employees will be aware of your workplace fire safety protocol.
- Evacuation Plan: In large commercial buildings, it is essential to post a fire evacuation plans around the workplace. Remember those maps you saw in elementary school with the blueprint of the school and a star for what exit to take? That's what we're talking about. Do not include elevators within your plan as they may not be available for use during a fire. Always make a plan for the stairs!
- Fire Aid: In case of injury during a fire, your employees should be aware of the location for the first-aid kit. By keeping these near locations where possible hazards can occur such as in the kitchen or near maintenance rooms, your employees will be able to quickly respond in a disaster.

How to Prevent Freezing Pipes
1/31/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Coon Rapids/Central Anoka County has been restoring homes in the Anoka and Coon Rapids area for over 20 years.
Minnesotans are a different kind of breed, dealing with some of the most crucial winter weather in the U.S.
Although the tenants of commercial properties might be prepared for the furiously cold weather that is to come, commercial property managers need to ensure that their buildings are ready, too.
5 Winter Safety Tidbits to Prevent Freezing Pipes
- Insulate water pipes.
This might be one of the easiest solutions. By insulating pipes that are exposed, along with attics, basements, and crawl spaces you will have increased protection from freezing.
- Check and re-check shutoff valves.
If a pipe bursts, you will need to stop the water as quickly as you possibly can to prevent further damage. Make sure all of your emergency shutoff valves are in working order.
- Inspect your pipes!
If you do not already, be certain that your pipes do not have any leakage or noticeable fatigue that may need replacing. Even if you have the slightest suspicion, it is much cheaper to be safe rather than sorry.
- Run water at a slow drip to relieve pressure.
If you believe a pipe is in danger of bursting, running the water at a slow drip, even the smallest of trickles, will help prevent the pipe from freezing and then bursting. If it is starting to freeze, the water will flow through the frozen area and melt the ice.
- Plan.
An emergency action plan should be in place in case of flash flooding. Ensure evacuation routes are mapped out, have a backup plan for critical documents, data, and contact information, and call your SERVPRO of Coon Rapids/Central Anoka County professionals to manage water damage as quickly as possible.

Preventing Fire Damage Migration in Coon Rapids Store.
1/31/2020 (Permalink)
Fire damage can shut your Coon Rapids boutique completely down, let us help you get back up and running.
Let SERVPRO help prevent further damage from a fire in your Coon Rapids store.
Small fires in your Coon Rapids boutique do not have to become devastating circumstances when you act quickly. Securing skilled restoration professionals like our SERVPRO team can provide effective mitigation solutions, but also containment strategies to reduce the spread of harsh fire effects to the rest of your building.
Containment is one of the pre-mitigation strategies that can help our professionals gain control of fire damage in Coon Rapids stores. Regardless of how a fire started, establishing a perimeter around the damage and severing air circulation to begin restoration tasks can keep the threat contained to a specific room or region of the business. In many situations, containment can occur with constructed barriers made from wood and 6mil plastic poly sheeting. This barrier can keep a fire that occurred in the backroom, for example, from reaching the main shop floor.
Specific tools can play a role in the reduction of soot particles, and smoke odor spread, as well. Air scrubbers can work to pull contaminated air in the environment through HEPA filters to clear out particulates circulating in the damaged area. Soot particles can be a hazard for those exposed, as they are microscopic and can lead to health effects when direct inhalation occurs. Air scrubbers and other filtration equipment can help to reduce the presence of these particles in the environment while other mitigation tasks get underway.
In this same approach, we can noticeably reduce the presence of harsh odors in several ways. Machines like hydroxyl generators or ozone machines can run within the containment zone to neutralize odor compounds. Also, the removal of debris and controlled demolition practices for charred remnants of building materials can reduce the catalysts for odor threats. Odors must get successfully managed to make fire loss incidents in your store “Like it never even happened.”
Fire losses can present substantial threats to your business if not addressed quickly. Our SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County team can show that We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster. Give us a call today at (763) 712-9712.

Eliminating Smoke Odors After an Andover Restaurant Kitchen Fire
A lingering harsh odor in your Andover restaurant can have a detrimental effect on the business, your patrons, and even the staff of the eatery. Kitchen flare-ups are not an uncommon situation to experience when you have a fast-paced food preparation area behind the scenes, but the effects of this situation can spread quickly out to more trafficked areas like the dining room. Once smoke odors begin to permeate the tablecloths, furniture, and open spaces where your customers are, it can be a hard situation to overcome.
Our SERVPRO professionals have multiple machines and tools explicitly devised to help you address odor and fire damage in your Andover restaurant. From cleaning up the residues and debris that can get left behind after a small grease fire to the harsh odors most powerfully concentrated in the kitchen areas, we have the equipment and the experience to help these scenarios right away.
Even before we get to work on the use of our premier deodorization tools and equipment, our SERVPRO technicians address the severity of charring and combustion in the kitchen. The origin of the fire can feature the worst concentration of destruction, and controlled demolition can be a safe and effective way to immediately reduce the presence and source of smoke odors permeating throughout the restaurant.
To reduce the presence of these odors in your dining area, we often turn to the practical results we get with our thermal foggers. These machines use high heat to convert a liquid deodorizing solution into a fog. This dense fog can get into the stitching of your tablecloths, carpeting, and other upholstered items to immediately affect and neutralize smoke odors on contact.
Running a business can be a challenge enough without the hazardous presence of lingering fire effects in the restaurant. Six Useful Chemical Agents For Water Damage In Your Anoka Commercial Property
8/27/2019 (Permalink)
We can do such a quality job that we can make it truly seem “Like it never even happened.”
Commercial Water Damage Workers In Anoka Point Out Six Useful Chemical Agents
If a toilet or sink ever breaks inside your Anoka convenience store, the results can be quite devastating. If the problem takes place while your store is closed at night, the commercial water damage you find when you come to open the store in the morning could be quite catastrophic. A broken clean water pipe can dispense hundreds of gallons into your store in hours, whereas broken toilets and sinks can threaten your health.
If drain water ever leaks out from your convenience store's restroom, there is always a possibility that harmful bacteria and parasites can be present. When mitigating commercial water damage in Anoka, our SERVPRO technicians base what restoration strategies they utilize on where the moisture originally came from. Clean water problems are easier to deal with than grey or black water issues because there is no chance that the water is harmful and contaminated. If one of your kitchen or bathroom sinks leaks, the water could contain contaminants and is classified as a category two situation. Sewage water leaking or toilets backing up can make matters worse because this black or category three problem means that the moisture has probably contaminated items in your store.
When battling the presence of harmful bacterias, our SERVPRO team uses several chemical agents. The following six chemicals get used often in the industry to help us combat harmful substances of all kinds.
1. Antimicrobials
Antimicrobial agents are used in limiting or stopping the growth of harmful microorganisms such as mold.

Challenges That Complicate Commercial Water Damage In Coon Rapids Self-Storage Facilities
If you run a self-storage facility, the risk water damage presents extend beyond the interruption of your regular operations. Since people store items with all sorts of value, ranging from rare items to regular items with sentimental value, any damage incurred might be hard to compensate. Such an incident can, therefore, strike a significant blow to your business. Our professional water damage restoration services can help save your customers' valuables, maintaining a favorable reputation for your storage facility.
Commercial water damage in Coon Rapids self-storage facilities can happen in several ways. Leaks from the roof or other breaches in the outer walls of the facility can let in rainwater. A burst plumbing line or a faulty air conditioning unit can also release water into unwanted areas of the facility. With the assembly of several locked units in a facility, locating the source of the leak or the extent of the damage can be a problem. Our SERVPRO technicians can use thermal cameras to check for wet areas behind walls establishing the extent of damage conveniently.
Passage of time amplifies the effects of water loss, so fast action is necessary. The segmentation of a self-storage facility can slow down water removal even with the use of sophisticated extractors leading to more losses. Our SERVPRO teams have access to several units of extraction equipment, allowing us to remove water from several areas simultaneously.
Even minimal exposure to water ruins books and other paper documents easily through ink smudges and other forms of material deterioration. The effect on electronics, on the other hand, might not be apparent immediately, but exposure can lead to corrosion of circuits, making them inoperable in the future. Our SERVPRO CDS, Commercial Drying Specialists, take different measures to save such items owned by your clients or are part of your record keeping system. We freeze any wet documents to prevent further deterioration and then use sublimation to dry them. For electronics, we ensure they do not cool to the dew point to prevent corrosion.
Water loss incidents pose a grave threat to self-storage facilities in Anoka, Andover, and Columbia Heights. Call SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 to help mitigate the loss. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

We Have The Extensive Training To Get You Back In Business After A Flood In Anoka
3/18/2019 (Permalink)
We have commercial equipment necessary to handle the disaster when it strikes your business. We are available 24/7 so call us right away.
Get Back to Business Faster using our Commercial Flood Damage Service in Anoka
In extreme weather conditions, it is not uncommon for heavy rainfall to cause road overflows. These can be particularly damaging to warehouses which tend to hold stock predominantly on the first floor as well as having limited insulation or protective exterior. Flooded areas usually have power shutoff as a safety precaution, and you may have to close the warehouse resulting in a loss of revenue temporarily. Getting back to business as quickly as possible begins with a call to our emergency line.
The scale and breadth of commercial flood damage in Anoka properties vary but having one service that can cater to any size disaster is an essential tool. SERVPRO has crew chiefs with extensive experience in removing excess quantities of water as well as performing emergency services. We can send a team led by a dedicated project manager to your site immediately upon receiving notification of loss.
On arrival, the first thing we can do is to restore power to the property as well as perform emergency board ups. Board ups can prevent theft and limit loss for commercial properties significantly; particularly if access doors or first-floor windows are damaged by fast-moving floodwaters. In severe cases, we can prepare the site for third-party general contractors to enter and work in a safe environment.
Mitigating loss is at the forefront of what we do at SERVPRO. Once we are satisfied that no further damage is likely, we can begin work removing water as well as any stock, equipment or furniture from the flood zone. A primary method for removing substantial amounts of water is gas-powered submersible pumps. These are fed directly into an open sewer point meaning they can remove a practically limitless amount of water.
Once excess water is removed the next step is to ensure the humidity levels are controlled which can prevent further flood damages later down the line. In an open system, we can merely air the warehouse replacing humid air with drier outside air. During the winter months, a closed system can be created by placing physical barriers then using a combination of rapid air movers and desiccant dehumidifiers.
If your commercial property sustains damages, contact SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 today.

When the Fire Suppression Sprinkler Floods Your Andover Office
1/8/2019 (Permalink)
Did you know that water damage is considered secondary damage from a fire?
Commercial Water Removal for Your Andover Office Building
Fire sprinkler systems are affordable and reliable protection for your office building in Andover. Not only do sprinkler systems save you from property losses from fire and save lives, but they also save you money from tax deductions, ordinance and code compliance, savings on insurance, and the ability to keep doing business as usual. However, as beneficial as they are, sprinkler systems can leave a wet mess behind.
The sprinkler system goes into action as soon as a fire is detected, which then creates a need for commercial water removal in your Andover property. Sprinkler systems can be set up to address a specific area of the fire, preventing it to spread, and lessening the amount of water used as well. A sprinkler system might use hundreds of gallons of water, while firefighters use thousands.
Any water used indoors leaves you with a problem of moisture that needs addressing. That is where our SERVPRO technicians come in. Water damage can include the carpeting, drywall, and other building materials, plus wet office materials like upholstery, the growth of mold, and standing water.
Our first step is to clear out items from your property that include cloth, wood, or other porous surfaces and store them in a safe place until your building is ready for their return. Some items might have to be replaced depending on how damaged they are and if we can restore them or not.
We can then remove any standing water with industrial truck-mounted pumps and extraction equipment. Our goal is to get your office building to the average level of dryness. We can take measurements from dry areas of the structure to determine the right levels. We make use of dehumidifiers and air movers to finish drying the affected area, which prevents mold from forming.
Water damage can weaken drywall or the structure of your building, or even leave stains on upholstery and carpeting which are permanent. In these cases, restoring your property might require additional cleaning services or construction from other reputable professionals.
SERVPRO of Coon Rapids/Central Anoka County understands that any downtime for your business in New Brighton, St. Paul, or Arden Hills means lost earnings for you. Therefore, when you call us at (763) 712-9712, we work quickly and efficiently to get you back up and running as soon as possible.

How Our Experts Can Get You Prepared For Fire Damage In Your Andover Commercial Property

Being prepared for disasters is important when running a business.
Andover's Commercial Fire Damage Experts Talk About Being Prepared For Disasters
Businesses that use heat during their day to day operations such as your Andover bakery are at high risk of suffering a structural fire. When working around several heat sources accidents can happen that can cause extensive commercial fire damage. The statistics show that there are over 5,000 restaurant fires reported to fire departments each year. These fires result in fewer than five deaths, around 100 injuries, and $116 million in property damage per year. Having an emergency action plan as well as designating a company like SERVPRO as your restoration contractor can help your commercial fire damage project go much more smoothly.
Being prepared for disasters is important when running a business. When you establish SERVPRO as your restoration contractor, we will be more prepared to help you when you find yourself in a commercial fire damage situation in Andover. As a part of the process, we come into your business ahead of time, and we determine where important things we may need access to in the building are such as electricity and water shutoffs. We also get all of the chains of command and contact information that we need to get approval to start mitigation work immediately.
If a fire does ignite inside your bakery, we will respond promptly and already know whom to contact to get work approval right away. We then will start by making sure the affected building is safe for all occupants. If there are any hazards, we mitigate them if we can or block off the area so that nobody is at risk.
Next, we begin an initial estimate where we determine what building materials and contents have been destroyed and which ones we can save with cleaning and deodorization. To do this, our SERVPRO estimators bring with them a test cleaning kit that they use to test clean different surfaces to judge cleanability. The initial estimate details what we know will need to be replaced and what items we think we can restore and save. If you ever have a fire start inside your bakery, call SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 24/7.

Commercial Water Loss in Andover? Picture SERVPRO as the Recovery Company to Call
Commercial Water Cleanup Experts in Andover Describe Various Extraction Tools
Water leaks can happen in your home as well as your auto mechanic shop in Andover. Over time appliances and waterpipes wear and eventually can malfunction and force you to deal with a commercial water cleanup situation. Plumbing supply system failures are the number one cause of moisture-related damage. These failures also cause 48% more damage on average than malfunctioning appliances or system material failures. When a pipe breaks the quicker the problem is resolved, the less your commercial water cleanup project will cost.
If the plumbing failure goes for a long time without being fixed, excessive water damage in an Andover shop can result. Moisture can ruin structural components inside your auto mechanic repair shop. Rusting of tools, inventory, and electronics can be costly to replace; why throw money away by delaying the water removal and drying processes? Our team at SERVPRO knows that reducing the loss of revenue due to a disaster is vital, so we strive to keep your doors open. Fast is better.
If needed, our SERVPRO technicians can complete all mitigation work during times when your business is closed. In other situations, we can conduct restoration operations a small section at a time so that part of your shop can stay open and your company can keep taking customers. Before any work begins at your place of business, we make sure your shop is safe for your workers and ours. Any potential dangers such as fall or slip hazards either get mitigated promptly, or the affected areas get blocked off until the issues can be resolved. No one wants to slip and fall into a pit.
After the work area is secure, our SERVPRO team begins the extraction process. We use either a truck-mounted or portable extractor depending on each situation. We then pick out an extraction tool to use depending on what type of material we are extracting moisture from. For your contents such as couches in your waiting room, we use a small handheld extraction tool. For saturated carpet inside your office or waiting area, we can use a weighted extraction unit that uses the weight of the operator to compress the carpet during extraction. Tiled floors get wet vacuumed, and even a mob and bucket help along with a squeegee.
If water pipes inside your mechanic shop ever leak call SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 24/7.

Removing Odors After Commercial Fire Damage For Businesses In Andover
Small-fires can often be contained easily enough, although the residues and odor left behind by smoke can make your business an unpleasant environment for your customers. Scrubbing away at thick, or oily, smoke residues can be counter-intuitive, spreading the affected area and causing further damage. Before cleaning and restoring your business, it is crucial to pre-test the type of smoke and soot left behind.
Dealing with commercial fire damage in Andover is a job best left to the professionals. At SERVPRO our technicians are trained in an IIRC approved center to learn the way smoke behaves. By learning the types, characteristics, and behaviors of smoke, we can provide a better service to the businesses in our communities.
No two fires are the same. The temperature of the fire, materials burned and the texture of the surfaces it comes into contact with are all contributing factors to the staining left behind. Wet smoke, created by burning synthetic materials, can leave behind a thick, oily residue as well as a powerful and unpleasant odor.
At SERVPRO we have the expertise and equipment to remedy your business. In most cases, this can be by wet cleaning the visible areas of damage. In other cases, we may use abrasive cleaning measures provided the surfaces are hardened and non-porous. Smoke travels by moving upward toward clean air. By working with this knowledge, we can help to find areas where smoke deposits reside undetected.
When it comes to clearing odors, our team can first look for the source. Air pockets or ventilation ducts are particularly at risk of smoke deposits. Using extendable cleaning equipment we can reach areas to rid your business of odorous staining and markings.
Once a SERVPRO project manager is satisfied that all areas of smoke build up have been removed and restored we can begin making your business habitable for your customers. Using powerful Ozone generators, industrial foggers and desiccant dehumidifiers in combination can help to neutralize lingering odors for good. Leaving your store, clean, fresh and ready for business.
We are a local franchise that is Faster to Any Size Disaster. Contact SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 for an immediate assessment and remediation service.

Andover's Commercial Water Damage Drying Techniques

If a pipe breaks inside your Andover beauty salon, it is essential that quick mitigation of the problem takes place.
Commercial Water Damage Drying Techniques
If a pipe breaks inside your Andover beauty salon, it is essential that quick mitigation of the problem takes place. It is vital that the building is made safe for your employees and customers. If moisture sits inside a structure for too long many problems including mold growth can take place.
It is also helpful if the mitigation work takes place while your business stays open. SERVPRO's commercial water damage technicians in Andover always try to complete restoration work without causing excessive strain on your company. From the first time we arrive on the job site to the finish, we utilize methods that allow our work to negatively affect your business as little as possible.
The first step to any mitigation process is to ensure that the building is safe for all occupants. Anything that is a potential hazard gets repaired, or the area gets blocked off before work begins. When we start the extraction process, we section off the areas that we are working in so that your customers and employees stay out of harm's way.
In some scenarios, we extract water out of your beauty salon a section at a time so that you can keep some salon chairs open and keep your business functioning. After we pull all of the moisture out with the extraction equipment that we can, the drying process begins. Structural drying sometimes gets completed overnight when the beauty salon is not open. Other times the dehumidification and air moving equipment gets set up inside the salon so that it is not in the way of business operations.
When setting equipment up inside a building to dry its structure, correct positioning of the air movers and dehumidifiers is vital. If air movers get set up to where they are pumping air directly into the walls, then they are pushing moisture into the wall which is not ideal. Our SERVPRO restoration team always sets up air movers so that they push air in a counter-clockwise motion at the walls at a 45-degree angle so that it pushes the moist air out to where the dehumidifiers can remove the water vapor.
Proper drying techniques get used to ensure that moisture levels drop to preloss conditions within 48 hours. For assistance drying out your beauty salon, call SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 any time of the day.

Tips to Keep Commercial Water Damage from Affecting Production Lines in Andover Factories
10/21/2017 (Permalink)
Keeping your factory environment clean and sanitary is imperative to providing quality products. Contact SERVPRO when facing water damage.
SERVPRO Technicians Remediate Water Damage as Well as Providing Prevention Services to Factories and Businesses
Businesses outside of the Andover area and your employees and their families depend on your factory and its operations. Without your facility, the state of workers' jobs, the finished goods produced, and even your suppliers suffer.
Factories must retain high levels of cleanliness, but commercial water damage in Andover can quickly thwart the best efforts in maintaining a sufficiently clean environment. Many factories have protocols in place to help maintain equipment and general safety. There are additional activities which managers can implement to help ensure the risks presented by the presence of unwanted water remain minimized.
If your factory is one of those specializing in food products or high tech, you know that quality controls regularly include the environment as well as the components used in the finished product. Water, while needed by virtually every living creature on the planet, quickly damages non-living things and does so rather effortlessly. Undesired living microorganisms such as mold and mildew thrive in environments where water persists, adding significantly to the trouble.
SERVPRO employees have seen the worst examples of the damage caused by water, in many different kinds of settings. We know firsthand that prevention is both easier and less expensive than cleanup and mitigation after damage affects a facility. This is why we continue to provide assessments and other preventative measures to local businesses.
In locations where dehumidification units already exist, maintenance of these items on a regular schedule can prevent situations from accelerating into trouble with inventory and finished products alike. If humidity is high enough to cause condensation to accumulate on cold surfaces, increasing the rate at which the existing dehumidifiers run can help resolve the problem. Attention to water meters during shut down periods can help you discover any otherwise invisible leaks in your water lines. You might not be able to do so during times of regular operations.
However, in both of these examples, locating the source of the water can lead to more permanent solutions. Adding water-proofing barriers or fixing leaks wherever they occur can resolve the issue more effectively than continually ridding your factory of the moisture by keeping it from ever entering.
SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County can assist you in discovering sources of water that you wish to eliminate. Call us for round-the-clock services at (763) 712-9712. We are always available to take your call.

Speed is of the essence when handling networking devices, so don’t delay.
Commercial Water Damage
For most modern businesses, there is a beating heart; a hub of activity through which all aspects of the company flow. It is found in the server room because connectivity is the key to success in our fast-paced digital world. The question is, what happens when flooding threatens to take an operation offline?
Commercial water damage in Oak Park businesses is more common than you might think. So, server rooms are at risk, particularly when situated on the ground floor. Despite this, many companies still build their networking systems in the basement. If a pipe bursts upstairs or a structural fault lets rainwater inside, there can be trouble. Fortunately, the experts at SERVPRO can carry out water damage repairs fast, so that the impact of leaks is minimal. Keep reading to find out how our technicians do this.
Tackling The Immediate Danger
The first step, once the team arrives on site, is to prevent further damage from occurring. Most servers are not placed directly on the ground. For reasons of safety, the most important components are slightly elevated or secured in a sturdy housing. It is good news, particularly if the standing water is only a few inches deep.
In this case, the main danger is from humidity and water in the air. So, the best approach is to cover exposed servers and electrical devices with polyethylene sheets. They are not normally removed from the area until the standing water is gone. If they are planning to remove electrical items, the SERVPRO technicians need suitable, safe conditions.
Starting Water Extraction
If your server room is in the basement, the water cannot go away by itself. SERVPRO uses heavy duty extraction equipment to pump it out of the affected area and into a secure receptacle. The utmost care is taken when moving extraction tools in and out of the server room, so as not to dislodge moisture and cause further damage.
When urgency is an issue, as it is in a server room, desiccant dehumidifiers are a good way to speed up the evaporation process. They contain a silica gel which draws water particles out of the air at a faster rate. As saturated air turns into surface water (and secondary water damage), it is important to maintain a steady but rapid rate of evaporation.
Restoring Wet Machines
Removing vulnerable parts of server technology may be necessary. It is hard to remove moisture from electrical items, but it is not impossible. Usually, we partner with a third party contractor, who specializes in exactly this type of restoration. You can, of course, hire your own specialist if you prefer.
The electrical items are inventoried and taken to a treatment facility, where they get warmed in a way which dries the moisture without compromising the internal components. There are several instances in which SERVPRO consults with third parties. The aim is always to offer you the best possible service.
Speed is of the essence when handling networking devices, so don’t delay. The sooner you let SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County take a look, the faster we can devise a water damage repair plan. Call us 24/7 on (763) 712-9712.
Commercial Water Damage can Affect Stores and Shops in St Francis

Retail Shops in St. Francis Rely on SERVPRO for Water Damage Restoration
Small Business Requiring Rapid Water Removal Rely on SERVPRO
Having your own business comes with many responsibilities, and having to cope with emergencies is one of them. Some, like water damage, can be one of them. When there is a water leak, your business not only has to pay for the lost water, but also faces the possibility of damaged inventory and equipment. When you react to the threat water damage poses to your investment, you typically don't have time to consult with others about what to do. You must act quickly to minimize the existing damage and to prevent larger losses from occurring.
St Francis shops and small stores that have water lines in them are at risk of commercial water damage when those lines and pipes are not maintained on a regular basis. When you do not own the building your enterprise is located in, you most likely rely on your landlord's maintenance crew to tend to such matters. While this may be written in your lease that maintenance of the building falls on the shoulders of your landlord, you should still examine those lines regularly. After reporting anything that seems risky to your landlord, repairs should be made quickly. However, leaks can still happen due to pressure changes in the water main's supply. Leaks are also not the only source of water that can damage a commercial setting, either.
Dampness is often sufficient to damage more delicate pieces of inventory, such as is found in a card shop, stationery store or clothing boutique. SERVPRO uses machines that boost air movement, even in small locations, to speed up the rate of evaporation. Water damage is possible with even slightly raised levels of moisture, meaning that flooding is not always the cause. Moist air can create the perfect environment for secondary water damage to develop. Mold growth can begin rapidly, as can other problems, when humidity levels increase from a leaky pipe, or even from a drain that has cracks in it under the sink in the bathroom.
If water damage is the threat, call SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County at (763) 712-9712 at any time. Our job is to keep your business open for business.

From Airports to Retail Shops Rely on SERVPRO in Coon Rapids to Keep Your Doors Open
Water, Fire, Smoke, Mold, and Biohazards Can Shut Down a Business
Often when least expected, disaster strikes thousands of businesses across the country every year. From the long and slow process of mold growth to sudden and disastrous floods or fires, there are many ways that a commercial building can sustain severe damage. In some cases, a fast response through SERVPRO's mitigation strategy can make a difference of thousands of dollars in damages and weeks of time, but there is typically still extensive cleanup and repair work to be done in the wake of such a disaster.
Fire Damage
Fires are what many business owners fear most, and the force most often identified with commercial damage in Coon Rapids. Although fires are visible and certainly destructive, they are thankfully a relatively uncommon occurrence. Most commercial fires start from electrical or artificial sources, such as gas leaks, chemical reactions, cigarette butts, or electrical malfunctions. Restaurants, cafeterias, and commercial kitchens are major players in fires. Most businesses are also equipped with a sprinkler system, able to douse most small blazes before they reach substantial size.
Water Damage
Water damage is a highly diverse type of damage, often creating unique conditions and problems that require an expert eye to solve. Response times are important for many water damage cases, as SERVPRO technicians will be able to assess the situation and shut off any sources of further damage. Some types of water damage, such as storm floods, can completely destroy buildings in extreme cases, but most are benign enough to allow for a full restoration.
Mold Damage
Mold is a difficult substance to deal with. While it is often less time-sensitive than other types of damage, cutting its growth off early is also important in stopping its exponential growth. Long-term exposure to mold may also cause health effects, making remediation a medical priority as well as a financial one. Many office buildings, particularly older structures with outdated air duct systems suffer from "air sickness." Indoor air quality is a key component in a healthy office or administrative building environment.
SERVPRO of Coon Rapids / Central Anoka County can tackle all types of commercial damage, with well-trained professionals and high-end equipment. Call us at (763) 712-9712 to find out how we can help to get your doors back open after a disaster.

How To Prevent And Recover From a Commercial Fire in Blaine

Be Prepared and Keep Your Business Open
SERVPRO Can Get Your Small Business in Blaine Back in Service After a Commercial Fire
Running a small business in Blaine can be a personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding endeavor. However, experiencing a commercial fire can severely compromise your ability to run your company. Commercial fires can cause a host of business complications, including structural damage and employee concerns regarding health and safety. However, learning more about how to prevent and recover from a commercial fire can help you remain in control and keep your small business running successfully. Review the following quick reference guide to learn more about commercial fire prevention and recovery methods:
The Disaster Prevention Plan
To prepare for the effects of a fire, it is important that you create a disaster prevention plan. This plan includes preparation for fires as well as hurricanes, floods, snow blizzards and any other natural disaster that could occur. Your disaster recovery plan should include the listing of contact information for vendors, clients, and employees. It should also contain the phone number for SERVPRO, a premier fire disaster recovery team. A backup plan for alternative locations and methods for completing business transactions are pertinent.
Commercial fire damage can be avoided for the most part by being aware of potential hazards. You should also take all necessary precautions to prevent fires. One way to accomplish this objective is to contact the local authority (Fire Marshall) on fire prevention and safety methods to attain specific recommendations for your company. Also, keep that SERVPRO number handy. Be sure that you and your employees know where the fire extinguisher and emergency exits are. Fire suppressant systems should always be checked as scheduled.
Two Common Sources Of Fire
Knowing about the most common sources of fire can help in preventing them. Candles are an accident waiting to happen in the workplace. Also, note that overloaded electrical outlets are a major fire hazard. Therefore, be sure that you don't overload your building's electrical capacity. Instead, use multiple outlines and surge protectors to limit the likelihood of a fire.
Fire Insurance
In most cases, your insurance policy should cover losses if a fire transpires. Always know exactly what your business's policy will cover and review the policy each year. If necessary, you should add supplemental fire insurance to the policy. Avoid settling for partial coverage so that your premiums will be lower. In the event that you endure fire damage, this coverage will likely not be enough. Finally, you should remember that the insurance policy will not cover all of your documents and valuables. It may be prudent to insure these items and materials separately. SERVPRO has coordinated communications with hundreds of insurance companies and ancillary agencies.

Water Damage and it's effects on Coon Rapids Government buildings
8/16/2015 (Permalink)
Several of these buildings are somewhat older structures that are in need of infrastructure replacement of critically important parts.
Water Restoration in Coon Rapids Government Buildings
There are thousands of buildings all over the nation, including Coon Rapids, that are owned and managed by the United States government. Several of these buildings are somewhat older structures that are in need of infrastructure replacement of critically important parts. This need for replacement could also mean the pipes are very old and not well maintained, so that they are more likely to burst then newer pipes would be. Also, there are many government buildings that are located in places that undergo significant changes in climate that can range anywhere from extremely cold to extremely hot. These temperature changes can make for a significant amount of strain on any piping that is in the building, which can yield burst pipes within buildings. Even though many people like to think of the United States government as immune to commonplace problems such as this one, the truth is that their buildings are just buildings like any other commercial building and can just as easily be affected by problems such as water damage as can any building in the United States. Which types of facilities that are owned by the United States government can be impacted by the bursting of pipes?
Military facilities experience effects due to weather changes that can come with no notice at all. Considering that several of these facilities are distributed all over the nation, it is very important to ensure that the ones that are in temperate climates have adequate insulation. If they do not, the consequences will be that the pipes will maintain a tendency to burst, whether they are located in the offices, airplane hangars, or barracks. If a pipe does burst in one of these facilities, the incident could actually lead to the formation of mold. This is bad enough in a home, but when an issue like this has an impact on the armed forces of our nation, it is absolutely crucial to make sure that the problem is taken care of, so that the armed forces can be ready for action at all times and not have to deal with issues such as this.
Federal court buildings could also be seriously impacted by damage due to water. These building are ones that people would really not want to have to deal with an issue such as this one, because the buildings are actually local centers of the federal justice system. Because they are so important within the system, they need to be open at all times, so that the justice system can proceed with its work as usual. If water damage takes place within one of these buildings, it needs to be tended to right away, so that the problem can be alleviated and the federal justice system can proceed with its work.
Government offices need to be protected from water damage as well. If there are water damage issues in a major center of government activity, it is possible that the bureaucracy within the government could be adversely affected or even slow down to the point of ineffectiveness. For this reason, it is crucial for any water damage problems that arise in these buildings to be resolved immediately and in the most professional way possible, so that the building can be maintained in working order. It would be absolutely unacceptable for federal government proceedings, which affect everyone in the nation, to be slow down or stopped due to a problem as simple as water damage within the building. Just like other businesses, the Government calls in experts when they need a specific job done, like water damage to their buildings. A Brief Guide to Mold in the Workplace
5/26/2015 (Permalink)
Have professionals test if you suspect that you have mold damage in your commercial office. If mold exists they can create a remediation plan.
General public awareness has been greatly increased in the past years about just how dangerous indoor mold can be to a person's health and a building's structure. What we'll be discussing here is some safety tips and information about keeping mold out of larger office buildings and just what to do if there is a mold outbreak. This will assist those responsible in creating and evaluating their remediation plans and help them respond as quickly and as knowledgably as possible. That being said, the information here is just a quick summary and should not be looked upon as the end all, be all of indoor office mold information.
First, let's take a look and see just what mold is.
The Basics of Mold
Molds are a natural part of the environment and can be found virtually anywhere, including outdoor and indoor environments, all throughout the year. Currently, there are around 1,000 species of mold native to the United States with about 100,000 known species across the globe.
Mold plays an important part in the environment outside. It helps break down just about any type of organic matter, such as fallen leaves, dead animals, and dead trees. For us, it also allows us to make things such as penicillin and cheese.
While mold does have its benefits in general, it's never a good thing to have growing inside homes or offices. Indoor mold can cause major problems, as it can eat away at the foundation, the inside decorations, and can even cause health problems to people.
It can grow on virtually anything, as long as the mold has some water, oxygen, and some organic compound to eat. When it has those things, it also spreads rapidly, given its airborne spore-centered method of reproduction.
It's very easy for mold to grow anywhere that moisture is present. The longer the mold goes untreated, the more problems it can cause. Some types of mold prefer growing on wood, insulation, food, carpet, or paper products, but it's even possible for some types to spread simply by eating dust.
One of the problems is that it doesn't need sunlight to grow, which means that mold that's nested in areas that can't be seen, such as under floorboards.
Mold Prevention Tips
Now that we understand a little bit about what mold is, let's take a look and see how to reduce the chances it has for growing in your workplace.
If there are ever any leaks in the workplace, do not delay in getting them immediately repaired.Routinely keep an eye out for any wet spots or condensation and get the areas dried out as soon as possible.Increase air circulation and ventilation in order to increase surface temperature and maintain an environment that isn't so humid. You want to shoot for an indoor humidity below 70%, but if you can get below 60%, it's even better.Schedule regular HVAC inspections and regularly change any filters. How Do I Know If I Already Have Mold?
Prevention is great, but sometimes mold can still sneak in through the cracks. Let's take a look at some ways to see how to determine if your workplace is already experiencing mold.
Are there any furniture pieces or materials in the building that have moisture damage? Are there any recurring or current moisture issues in the workplace?Has anyone been reporting a musty or even moldy smell?Has there been any recent remodeling on the premises?Have people been reporting any health issues related to mold?Mold Cleanup Methods
If you do find that mold is present, the correct method for cleanup would be to remove any causes of moisture and to completely remove the contaminated materials to prevent any further damage. There are a number of different cleaning methods you can employ to help remediate the damage mold causes. The specific method you employ for your workplace will depend on specifically what type of material has been affected.
Wet Vacuum
These are vacuums that are specifically designed to pick up water, whether the water is standing on hardwood floors, carpeting, or pooled in one area. Wet vacuums should not be used on porous material like gypsum board and should only be used on particularly wet materials. After using the device, make sure to clean and dry thoroughly to prevent mold buildup in the machine itself.
Water and Detergent
For nonporous material, mold can quickly be cleaned by using a combination of water and detergent. Make sure to dry thoroughly after wiping down the area.
High-Efficiency Particulate Air Vacuums
HEPA vacuums are great to use after an area has already been cleaned using traditional methods and considerably dried. Ensure that the filter is properly fitted into the machine and that anyone operating it uses a mask when switching filters.
While mold is a huge nuisance, particularly in larger office areas, it's important to remain proactive to ensure that there isn't any chance for it to develop. In addition to that, maintain regular contact with the building's occupants to be able to respond quickly and effectively in case mold gets through anyway.
